Our Story

Our Story

Phuong at her stand.

Yes, we are three guys from Texas, but to say we are passionate about bánh mì is an understatement.  Over the course of ten years and many trips to Vietnam, we believe we've found the ultimate bánh mi.

After literally eating thousands of sandwiches, the clear winner to us was the Bánh Mì Phuong food cart found in the sleepy beach town of Hội An, Vietnam. In fact, Anthony Bourdain came to the same conclusion on “No Reservations”.

We became obsessed with the idea of bringing this bánh mì back to Austin.  With the help of a translator we developed a bond with Phuong over our mutual love for bánh mì.  Incredibly, she agreed to share her 100-year-old recipes for the first time with anyone...including her own family members.  Why you ask?  Because she loved the idea of people in a country she had never visited, halfway around the globe enjoying her bánh mì.

During a sweltering Vietnamese summer, we sat at Phuong's kitchen table observing, tasting and laughing together while she taught us her recipes.  What was the secret to the best bánh mì in the world?  Every component of this sandwich is made from scratch with incredibly fresh ingredients and no shortcuts.

We are proud to bring these secret recipes from 8801 miles away to Austin, Texas.  We urge you to try it with no substitutions, the way Phuong intended. You won’t be sorry.
